Who is Lagrandt?

We are a new historical-performance (HP) orchestra specializing in the Romantic classicsthink Beethoven, Brahms, & Tchaikovsky. The ensemble debuted last year at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and now we are preparing to open our 2025-26 season with Tchaikovsky's Third Symphony.

Why Tchaikovsky?

Tchaikovsky is a household name to many, most famous for his ballets The Nutcracker and Swan Lake. This particular symphony, which was composed the same year as Swan Lake (1875), shares the magic that makes his ballets so unforgettable.

What is HP?

Historical performance means many things in music, but most importantly to us, it is a way of interpreting a piece. Our orchestra uses original or replicas of instruments from the 19th century and incorporates forgotten sounds from the time. This helps us to bring a new dimension and aesthetic to our performances.

Why at FactorIJ?

FactorIJ, a unique artistic space and art library located on IJburg (Amsterdam East), houses a remarkable 1914 grand piano — an instrument that perfectly matches our aspirations, aesthetics, and program. This concert offers a rare opportunity to hear this piano in a historically informed performance, alongside instruments from the same decennia.
