About the Concert:

The influential critic Eduard Hanslick once described Brahms’ Fourth Symphony as “like a dark well; the longer we look into it, the more brightly the stars shine back.” Orchestra Lagrandt’s potent program features three works that helped define the nineteenth-century musical landscape.

Rossini’s The Barber of Seville is widely regarded as one of the greatest comic operas of all time. At the height of Rossini’s popularity, his operas accounted for more than forty percent of all performances in the 1820s.

John Field’s Second Piano Concerto, though rarely heard today, was championed by composers including Chopin, Schumann, and Brahms. Its distinctive style, blending Classical elegance with Romantic twists and even occasional echoes of Irish folk music, will be brought to life by fortepianist Aruth Masrangsan, laureate of the legendary MA Competition in Bruges.
